These terms apply when you use the Zebal mobile app. By installing or using Zebal, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. What Zebal is
Zebal is a personal and shared expense tracking app. It records what you tell it, helps you set budgets, lets you split costs with a group, and offers AI-generated summaries and suggestions.
Zebal is not a bank, payment provider, or financial adviser. It does not hold your money, move money, or connect to your bank accounts. It is a record-keeping tool.
2. Your account
- You need an account to use the app, created with an email address or phone number.
- You are responsible for keeping access to your account secure.
- You must give accurate information when creating your account.
- You must be at least 13 years old to use Zebal.
- You may delete your account at any time from Settings.
3. Your data is your responsibility
Zebal records the information you enter. It does not verify that information, and it cannot know whether an amount, date or category you have entered is correct.
Please keep your own copies of anything important. The app provides CSV and text export from the menu, and an optional online backup in Settings. We strongly recommend using at least one of these. While we take care to protect your data, we cannot guarantee against loss caused by device failure, an uninstall, a service outage, or an account deletion you carry out yourself.
4. AI features
Zebal uses AI to suggest categories, understand spoken expenses, summarise spending and answer questions about your records.
AI output can be wrong. Categories may be misread, amounts may be misheard, and summaries may misinterpret your data. Always check what the AI has entered before saving it, and treat its suggestions as prompts to think about — not as financial advice. Any financial decision you make remains yours.
5. Groups and shared expenses
- When you join or create a group, the expenses, messages and balances you add become visible to every member of that group.
- Do not add anything to a group that you would not want all its members to see.
- Balances and settlement suggestions are calculated from what members have entered. They are a convenience, not a legally binding record of debt.
- Any disagreement about who owes what is between you and the other members. Zebal cannot arbitrate or reverse a group's records.
- Group admins can add and remove members and change group settings.
6. UPI payments
Zebal does not process any payment. When you use the payment feature, the app simply opens your own UPI app with the details filled in. The payment itself happens entirely between you, your UPI app and your bank.
This means we cannot see, hold, reverse, refund or recover any UPI payment. Check the recipient's UPI ID and the amount carefully before confirming, as UPI transfers usually cannot be undone. For any problem with a payment, contact your bank or UPI provider.
7. Premium subscription
- Zebal offers an optional paid subscription with additional features. The core expense tracking features remain free.
- A free trial period may be offered. Unless cancelled before it ends, the subscription begins and is charged.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled.
- All purchases are handled by Google Play Billing. We never see or store your payment details.
- To cancel, use the subscription settings in the Google Play Store — cancelling is done through Google, not through us.
- Refunds are handled by Google under the Google Play refund policy. We cannot issue refunds directly.
- Prices may change. If they do, you will be told before any change affects you.
8. Referrals and rewards
- Referral codes may grant a discount to a new user and free premium days to the referrer.
- Each account may use one referral code, once.
- Rewards have no cash value and cannot be transferred or exchanged for money.
- We may withdraw rewards obtained through fake accounts, automated means, or any other abuse of the referral system.
9. Adverts
Zebal may offer optional rewarded adverts — you can choose to watch an advert in exchange for credits towards AI features. Watching is always your choice, and the app is fully usable without it. Adverts are supplied by third parties and we do not control their content.
10. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Zebal for anything unlawful.
- Post abusive, harassing or offensive content in group chats.
- Attempt to access another person's account or group without permission.
- Reverse engineer the app, or interfere with its security features.
- Use automated systems to create accounts or generate activity.
- Resell or redistribute the app or its paid features.
We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms.
11. Availability
We try to keep Zebal working reliably, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of faults. Parts of the app depend on services we do not control — Google Firebase, Google Play, and your network — and those may be interrupted. Features may also change or be removed as the app develops.
12. Limitation of liability
Zebal is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the app, including lost data, missed payments, or financial decisions made on the basis of information shown in the app.
Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
13. Intellectual property
The Zebal app, its name and its design belong to us. Your expense data belongs to you — using the app does not transfer ownership of your data to us.
14. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the app changes. The date at the top will be updated, and significant changes will be announced in the app. Continuing to use Zebal after a change means you accept the updated terms.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India will have jurisdiction over any dispute.
